Periodontal Treatment

After a periodontal procedure, you can take over-the-counter, non-aspirin pain medication to relieve discomfort.

Drink at least eight glasses of water the day of your procedure. This will help wash out bacteria.

Avoid eating crunchy, spicy, or hot foods the day of your procedure (i.e. chips, raw carrots, crispy fried chicken.)

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water if your gums are sore and tender.

Brush gently on the day of your procedure, even if your gums are tender. This will remove the plaque that has started to reform. Always use a gentle, fluoridated, tartar control toothpaste.

You don't have to floss or use any home care aids the day of treatment if there is too much sensitivity. Starting the following day, resume your oral homecare routine.

Follow all of your home care instructions exactly as directed. Additionally, keep all scheduled hygiene appointments. These appointments are very important to the success of your treatment.

Please contact our Fort Worth dental office if you experience any unusual symptoms.
