Teeth Whitening

While bleaching or whitening your teeth, normal oral hygiene measures should be followed (flossing and brushing).

Bead the bleaching gel into your custom tray, using caution not to overload the tray.

Insert the tray into your mouth over the teeth and gently wipe any excess gel from around the edges of your tray, taking extra care not to leave any gel on your gums. Do not rinse your mouth, since this may dilute the bleaching agent.

If you wear your whitening tray during the day, plan for three-hour treatment each day. You may prefer to sleep in your tray. Many of our patients find nighttime bleaching more practical and comfortable.

Never drink, eat, or smoke while wearing your tray.

After completing the daily bleaching session, remove the tray and gently clean it with a toothbrush. Rinse it completely and let it dry thoroughly before the next session.

What to Expect

You may experience slight tingling around your gums. Once again, be careful to remove all bleaching gel from your gum tissue. An excess amount usually means you’ve used too much gel in your tray.

You may have some sensitivity to hot or cold. Let Dr. Pointer know if you experience abnormal sensitivity. Using a toothpaste made especially for sensitive teeth is recommended. If the sensitivity is too uncomfortable, stop treatment. Usually, sensitivity stops after several days.

Office Evaluations

Please attend follow-up appointments as scheduled. These very brief appointments will allow Dr. Pointer and his staff to monitor your progress and evaluate your gum tissue. If necessary, they may make adjustments in your treatment. As with all dental procedures, if you experience significant post procedure pain or abnormalities, call our Fort Worth dental office for immediate assistance.
